How To Improve Willpower

If you could only improve your willpower, you’d get so much more done, right?

It’s hard for many of us to stick to a daily routine of exercise and clean eating (or whatever routine we aspire to keep). And when our willpower wains, we beat ourselves up by saying, “I really need to workout more,” or “I’ve been so bad recently,” or “I’m feeling lazy.” We put ourselves down.

We need to think differently about the tasks at hand.

Try instead to rephrase – and thus re-conceive – the task. Change “I need to get my taxes in order,” or “I really should exercise today,” to “I can’t wait to get those taxes done,” and “today I’d love to exercise. That’ll make it a great day.”

Once you tell yourself the task is both a priority and something you feel good about, you’ll find it easier to make time for it. Try it and let us know how it goes.

Improve willpower with visualization. Start your day by envisioning the things you will do.
